New Regional Web Site

A new regional web site is giving tourists and locals a snap shot view of Central Alberta.

The site, entitled Focus on the Red Deer Region can be found at www.reddeerregion.com.

It highlights the economic and cultural side of Central Alberta and the Red Deer region.

"I wanted to develop something that gives an overall perspective of the region." said Paul Pettypiece.

This site is a one stop comprehensive resource to find what's available on a wide variety of topics within Red Deer as well as areas within an hour's drive of the city.

Business people and investors will be interested in the economy, business, transportation and news sections of the web site.

Visitors will find information on tourism, convention and hospitality as well as accommodations while residents can look for information on community life, recreation and community profiles.

Researchers will find interest in population and demographics, geology, climate and history of the region.

"I've been very interested in the region since I moved here in 1973," said Pettypiece. "There is tons of information on a variety of web sites, but not a ton of information in a variety of categories on one web site."

Other features the web site highlights include the region's Olympians, historical population numbers and rates of growth to future anticipated development projects as well as regional attractions and natural areas and parks, among others.

A community enhancement directory gives contact information for all kinds of community resources from business to culture, from leisure to education and from attractions to municipalities.

A business directory under development will assist visitors, residents and enquirers find many services they're looking for.

Dozens of links to local and regional web sites make getting more information easier.

The web site, which was developed in December started off with 15 pages and now has grown to over 80 pages.

"I am getting a significant number of hits on the site everyday," said Pettypiece. "The response has been really good from both the business sector and municipal leaders."

Upcoming features Pettypiece is working on include famous personalities of the region and a history of how the railroad influenced the early growth of the region.
