The
Town of Eckville is a small rural
family-friendly agricultural community
Eckville, originally known as
Kootuk, moved to its present location when the Canadian Northern Western
Railway (now Canadian National) built its line to Rocky Mountain House
in 1912. The community was ultimately named after its original landowner
Arthur E.T. Eckford.
Incorporated as a village in 1921, Eckville became a town in 1966. One
of the town's claim to fame is that Olympic skeleton sled racer Melissa
Hollingsworth went to school in the community.
